Morita Japanese Red Crab Hot Pot Soup

The Japanese Spider Crab is one of the largest arthropods in the world and is found in the waters around Japan, particularly in the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu islands. It’s called “Spider Crab” due to its long, spindly legs, which can span up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) from claw to claw. These crabs have a reddish-orange color on their legs and carapace, which might be what some people refer to as the “Japan red crab.”
